How to create a better bathroom.
If you are looking for a solution for better bathroom storage, mage sure that you have enough cupboards in your newly remodeled bathroom and create a feeling of space, the more clutter that you have on view the more untidy (and small) your room will look.
if you do away with pedestal basins, you will also and get rid of an awkward place to clean and at the same time hide ugly pipes and gain a work surface for the inevitable "odds and ends" that will remain on display
A better bathroom doesn't just mean a new and better bathroom suite, it also needs to be a solution to de-clutter the area, so by opting for one of the many types of vanity units and cupboards you will create smooth clean lines that will add a feeling of space, will be a better solution for your storage problems and is a step in the right direction to the better bathroom that you seek.
Look for a local bathroom installer in your area or go to a local showroom, where you should be able to get good advice and design ideas, if you can find a showroom that has a list of recommended bathroom installers you can be assured of their quality, as no respectable bathroom showroom would recommend someone who could damage their reputation.
If you have a small room don't have a full depth unit instead go for a half inset basin, where the unit is about Cm (12") deep and the basin projects foreword to about Cm (16") this not only give a feeling of more space and tidiness and at the same time gives a much more useful depth to the cupboard, where you can easily see and reach items, instead of losing them at the back where they are hard to see and find.
The right design of basin will be very important. If there are two people sharing the bathroom, and you have the space two identical basins can be very useful when rushing to get ready for work in the mornings or getting ready to go out in the evening, this would also give you more storage room.
If you have the space, consider having a concealed cistern and a back to wall pan, again this makes for a very tidy look and is much easier to keep clean!
Once you have opted for a concealed cistern you will need to form a compartment to conceal the cistern in, it may be sited next to the basin or maybe elsewhere, but whatever the case it does necessitate a shelf on top of the compartment, that will also be a very useful area to stand and items.
When it comes to choosing a bathroom suite it is not necessary to stick rigidly to design of sanitryware, taps and shower etc; that you have chosen, as long as you know the style, because whatever you want will almost certainly be able to be sourced elsewhere, and (quite possibly) at a better price!
So get an idea of what you want and then discuss it with your installer or showroom/ bathroom designer to see what is available.
What flooring to choose.
Changing your chosen bath/showroom suite and furnishings will strongly influence your decision on your chosen floor, having young children or elderly, infirm people who will use the room is also another important consideration, along with (of course) budget. Hard tiles and wooden flooring may not be the best idea under these circumstances. If you want real wood floors (not laminate) go to www.wood-you-like.co.uk for help and advice
There are some very goods vinyl flooring now that can look almost like wood or even tiles, but with a much softer feel. Carpets are another option and can look very warm and comforting, but are probably better used in your en-suite, and only used by yourselves, because little boys (and big boys) are not as accurate as they should be!!
In a small bathroom choose larger tiles 25 x 35 approximately would be fine, and in neutral shades, add a complementary border and leave it at that, don't make it "over fussy" Take care with over sized tiles because they will need a very even surface to stick to, and may rock on uneven walls making it very hard to keep an even and flush look. Natural stone and porcelain tiles may cost you extra to lay as well as costing more to buy, so take that into consideration when buying.
Lots of light, such as spot lights, a large mirror, possibly with a light either side will really add class to your remodeled bathroom.
The modern style of "ladder" towel warmer/radiators fit very well into a small room because they can be relatively narrow but can run almost from floor to ceiling if necessary, take into consideration that the taller option may be better because you will (naturally) want to use it for warming towels, and that will reduce the amount of heat in the room as the towels act as insulation.
