No two bathrooms are the same (unless you are a property developer) so there are as many different designs to choose from as there are individual imaginations. What follows is real just a very small selection of what is available, some can be seen in showrooms, but most have to be chosen from magazines and brochures because there are just not enough showrooms about.
Whatever you do (unless you are very experienced) talk to your plumber or specialist bathroom installer before making your purchases, it could save you from costly mistakes, and may even save you money, in either case it will be necessary to accurately measure your bathroom to make sure that everything will fit and work properly, buying the wrong taps for instance can make the difference of filling a bath in seven to eight minutes to over thirty minutes.
Be Careful who you choose, to do your work!
If you are adding a second bath or shower room, or even a third, is the cold water storage tank big enough? will you run out of water when filling a bath? are the pipes big enough to take all of the extra water? the list goes on, so get the proper advise from a professional and be prepared to budget for the long term, and not just go for the lowest possible price, find out what you are getting for your money and find out what the guarantees are, there are plenty of people around who are ready to take your money for a substandard job, and not be about in the future should something go wrong.
White is generally the best choice when choosing a bathroom suite, in fact it is now very hard to choose anything but white, as a trip to any showroom will prove, white is definitely the "new colour" but that's no bad thing, it's neutral, clean looking and light, so adding colour to the walls, curtains or blinds and flooring will give the individuality and flare that can make your bathroom a great place to be in.
Tiling is the next consideration, and with the right choice of tile you can add subtle colour and warmth to your new room, tiles are best not chosen from a catalogue because the colour, tone and texture do not photograph well, so a trip to your local tile showroom will be a necessity! Choose big tiles wherever possible as these will make a small bathroom appear bigger and in a big room can make it grand, and again try to keep the colour light
Sometimes less is more, if you don't fancy floor to ceiling tiles all around the room, consider tiling to about 1.2 metres or so (except the shower, right up is needed here) and if you have a small room put in a really big mirror, and put in spot lights in the ceiling, this will really help to make the room "bigger"
Style is not everything in a bathroom, and there are many people whom simply want their old and "tired" bathroom replacing, and the old "1970's" tiles re doing with something better, so here just replacing that old "Pampas" or "Sepia brown" suite and replacing it with a white one, and a few tiles can make all the difference, without breaking the bank.
The use of colour with a basic white bathroom suite and the right choice of tiles can make the world of difference to your bathroom, add simple but effective lighting and a good size mirror and you have a super room that is both affordable and stylish. Always keep your bathroom warm, to make it really welcoming and comfortable, and perhaps, a dish of pot pouri. or other pleasant smell, would be very nice, bathrooms are now very much "living" rooms, and should be treated as such.
